"Three hundred years ago, the desire for entry into Delhi led Maratha military leader Baji Rao to battle relentlessly. However, as a military leader, he was invincible. Three hundred years later, Bollywood witnessed a clash of legends at the box office as Baji Rao, the valiant Maratha, stood his ground against Bollywood's Badshah Dilwale, played by Shah Rukh Khan. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film, we see the rise of Baji Rao, who served as the fourth Peshwa of the Maratha Empire from approximately 1720 to 1740 AD (before his death). He fought in 41 battles throughout his life and was never defeated."

In 1740, at the age of only 39, Maratha warrior Bajirao fell critically ill and passed away suddenly. Bajirao, known for his military prowess, once saved the Bundelkhand region from the Mughal invasion. He defeated the invading Pathan Muhammad Khan Bangash and the valiant princess of Bundelkhand, Mastani, fought alongside him. It was during this time that Bajirao met and fell in love with Princess Mastani. Mastani became Bajirao's second wife, but his Maratha family never fully accepted her as his official spouse, as she was a Parsi Muslim from the royal family of Chhatrasal, the Rajput king of Bundelkhand.

In this picture, the struggle to overcome barriers of religion, social norms, and family dynamics to preserve the love of Bajirao and Mastani is depicted. This theme has also been referenced in history. Before this, through the tale of Akbar and Jodha, Ashutosh Gowariker had shown how love can transcend the Hindu-Muslim divide. The love story of Bajirao and Mastani from a different cultural background shows that love knows no religion. It can be said that all religions teach humanity to love one another.

In Priyanka Chopra's character, Kashibai, her acting is very powerful. Apart from her, Tanvi Azmi's portrayal of Bajirao's mother is also outstanding.
