It all started with Singham. One by one came Singham Returns, Simmba. Now, in the cop drama series, a new member, Sooryavanshi, joins. After Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh's attempts at tackling evil, it's now Akshay Kumar's turn to shine on the screen as Sooryavanshi. The anticipation for his arrival was set in Simbaa's movie, directed by Rohit Shetty. This film has it all — style, attitude, showmanship, star power. Just like Simbaa, this movie's narration has also been enriched by the voice of Rohit's favorite actor, Ajay Devgn. From 1993 to 2008, with one after another terrorist attack in Mumbai, Ajay recalls the horrors. The movie's visuals portray that terror attack. The gradual activation in the city through sleeper cells of Lashkar, and the plan of a massive explosion... the story unfolds along these lines.
Taking the entry is DCP Veer Sooryavanshi. His sole goal is to protect the city of Mumbai from any terrorist attack, no matter the cost. His dedication to the job is so strong that his wife, Riya (Katrina Kaif), and son, Aryan, come second in priority. Prior to this, in movies like 'Holiday' and 'Baby,' Akshay Kumar has portrayed characters of similar nature. Thus, the film's theme isn't something entirely new for him. However, Rohit Shetty hasn't made a special effort to be innovative with the storyline. He has played it safe. Nevertheless, the film is marked by gripping action sequences. The scene where Janak (Sikander Kher) is pursued is a visually delightful spectacle. The movie could have been even more engaging if the editing had been given more attention. Particularly, the first half appears to be quite divine. However, after intermission, there won't be any dull moments, as it picks up pace.
In this film, it's Akshay Kumar's performance that truly stands out. He has excelled in this intense movie! In the role of the super cop, he is picture-perfect. From beginning to end, the film revolves solely around Akshay. Katrina Kaif looks great and her sensuous dance moves in the rain song have added a touch of allure to her performance. In the second half of the movie, the smashing entry of Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh adds even more power-packed moments to the film's mood.
