In celebration of the success in the corporate world, husband Vikram (played by Pavel Gulati) slapped his wife Amrita (Tapsi Pannu) during a party. And right from there, the entire picture changed. With Vikram at its center, whose life is constantly changing, will he be able to protest against it? Or will he, in line with such societal norms, forgive her husband? Will any questions arise against this prevalent notion in society?

In a well-known family in Delhi, there was a girl named Amrita, who was skilled in classical dance. She could excel in different fields of life, but becoming a perfect housewife was her ultimate dream. She gave up dancing for that reason. Vikram was a good person too. He was always occupied with his career. Although he fell victim to office politics, it was his wife who bore the brunt of it. One day, just like that, at a party, a slap on the wife's cheek! And in that instant, life took a complete 360-degree turn.

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, 'Thappad' is a 2-hour 21-minute social statement. The mirror reflecting domestic violence speaks loud and clear. When it's repeatedly said after marriage that what people will say or how society places immense importance on marital life, this film raises questions against such varied conventional notions. Vikram loves his wife dearly, but his obsession with building a career doesn't deter him from becoming a devil. The film will showcase Taapsee as a well-educated woman from an upper-middle-class family, who is compelled to raise her hand against her husband, Vikram, despite the fact that she loves him, in order to preserve her dignity and self-worth within their marriage.

Amrita remains silent and trusting. But suddenly, from that slap onwards, a transformation starts brewing within her. Pain, pride, anger—all mix to give birth to a different Amrita. She confronts her father with Amrita by her side. And then the real drama unfolds.
