After a hiatus of three years, Mohit Suri created a film. And in the second half of the film, he twisted the story. Therefore, upon seeing the film, it feels like time to exit the cinema hall, the meaning of watching this film was not worth cutting a ticket for.
However, the first half of the film had an engaging storyline. Adhvit (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Sara (Disha Patani) form a friendship after reaching Goa. They enter the world of intoxication and gradually their lives take a wild turn. Sara becomes pregnant. At first, Adhvit is reluctant to take responsibility, but later he realizes his mistake and turns back to Sara. However, their lives turn into a nightmare due to the misdeeds of some police officers. Will Adhvit and Sara be able to seek revenge? That question remains in Climax.
But why don't the protagonist and the heroine interact with the police officers? Kunal Khemu, who portrays a police officer, hasn't built his backstory at all. And it's this missing backstory that leads to the lack of connection. In comparison, Anil Kapoor's police officer character is more logically developed. Anil has made sufficient effort to bring depth to his character.
However, as the story loses its grip in various places, it doesn't seem necessary to discuss Anil's performance in 'Malaang' – his portrayal is so good. The film's sole silver lining is the romance between Aditya and Disha. Aditya has been presented as incredibly handsome in the film. For those who prefer seeing Disha in a bikini, they won't be disappointed either.
The adventures the hero and heroine undertake in Goa are truly enjoyable. However, if you remove these entertaining shots, the rest of the film can be labeled as somewhat monotonous. The twist involving Disha in the film also falls flat in terms of impact!
In today's Bollywood, no matter the genre – be it comedy, love story, or social issues – they are creating quite derivative films. Unfortunately, Mohit Suri has also failed miserably in 'Malaang' following this trend.
