Movie Summarize:

Captain Vikram Batra played a significant role in the Kargil War, leaving an indomitable spirit and unparalleled courage, contributing extensively to India's victory. It is precisely this reason that the film 'Shershaah' has been made. Siddharth Malhotra portrayed the character of Captain Vikram Batra in the movie.

In the difficult mountainous region, Kargil still holds its place in the list of the best battles. This historic war fought at an altitude of 17,000 feet was extremely risky. Disguised as Kashmiri militants, Pakistani soldiers infiltrated into Indian territory by crossing the Line of Control. The conflict quickly escalated into a full-fledged war, where a soldier's journey from a lieutenant to a captain became a symbol of his courageous spirit and the peak of patriotism by hoisting the national flag at the highest point of the battlefield. Even if one has to sacrifice their own life for this reason, there is no regret. However, before reaching there, director Vishnu Vardhan and his writer Sandeep Srivastava started maneuvering the subject very slowly.

The movie 'Shershaah' does not deviate from the formula followed in Bollywood for making films on India-Pakistan wars. However, the flavor of this film is somewhat different because it extensively portrays the biography of Captain Vikram Batra, who sacrificed himself to lead India towards victory in Kargil. Watching the story of how Vikram Batra, the son of a schoolteacher from Palampur, rose to become a captain and found love in Dimple Cheema (played by Kiara Advani) and was posted in Sopore, Kashmir in 1999 with the 13 JAK Rifles, is truly inspiring.

The movie beautifully captures Vikram Batra's life from his childhood to his growth, finding love, and getting posted in Sopore, Kashmir. His code name was 'Shershaah,' and after his first successful mission, his success code was 'Yeh Dil Maange More.' The war scenes have been shot brilliantly, making 'Shershaah' an immersive and thrilling experience rather than a boring one. Instead, it creates an atmosphere of excitement and suspense.

In the war scenes, Siddharth Malhotra has acted exceptionally well and has given his 100 percent in this movie. He completely immersed himself in the character of Captain Vikram Batra and successfully portrayed the character with great finesse. On the other hand, Kiara Advani was suitable for the role of Dimple Cheema, as she portrayed the character of a supportive and loving partner convincingly. However, Kiara did not get as much screen time for her acting in this movie.

We also see Kolkata actor Shatap Figar as Colonel Yogesh Kumar Joshi. In the limited screen time, he managed to leave a good impression. Overall, the other characters in the movie also showcased their acting skills effectively.

The movie has captured the essence of patriotism on a grand scale. Releasing just before 15th August, such movies carry significant importance. Many war scenes are portrayed realistically, and perhaps, on the big screen, they can be even more impactful. It's noteworthy that Bollywood has previously made many movies on war, but 'Shershaah' stands out, pushing the boundaries. The film's origin is quite powerful, where a soldier protects the land of India by keeping aside his personal interests, fighting against the enemies. 'Shershaah' is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from Thursday.

Captain Vikram Batra, PVC, was a skilled officer of the Indian Armed Forces. During the 1999 Kargil War, he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest and most prestigious military decoration, posthumously, for his courageous actions and bravery. But do you know why this biopic is named 'Shershaah'?

Captain Vikram Batra began preparing for the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination after completing his graduation in 1995. In 1996, he cleared the CDS and joined the Indian Military Academy. After completing the 19-month training course, he graduated from IMA on 6th December 1997 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (13 JAK Rifles). In 1999, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and was deployed during the Kargil War.

After successfully completing his tenure in the 19th Mountain Brigade under the 8 Mountain Division in Kashmir, he was ordered to join the 13 JAK Rifles in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Initially, under the leadership of Major Yogesh Kumar Joshi, his battalion advanced towards its destination, but due to the change in orders following the intrusion of the enemy on 5th June during the Kargil War, his battalion was directed to move to Dras, Jammu, and Kashmir.

On 19th June, Captain Vikram Batra's Delta Company received the order to capture Point 5140. His code name was 'Shershaah'. Captain Batra and his Delta Company decided to launch a surprise attack on the enemy positions.

One day before his death, Captain Batra received a warning call from a Pakistani soldier. They communicated over the radio, and the Pakistani soldier said, "Sher Shah, will you come? Don't even try to come this way." However, this challenge only motivated Captain Batra and his team even more. At an altitude of 17,000 feet, Captain Batra and his team planned to approach the mountain from the rear to surprise the enemy.

As they climbed up the slope, when they were close to their objective, the Pakistani defenders pinned them down with machine gun fire. No matter how many times they tried to climb up and get close to the objective, the Pakistani forces would rain bullets on them using their machine guns. In one such attempt, Captain Batra and five other soldiers managed to reach the top. Alone, Captain Vikram Batra killed three enemy soldiers at close quarters before being hit. He then ordered his team to regroup and continue the mission.

Despite being seriously injured, he continued to inspire his team for the final assault. On the morning of June 20, 1999, at 3 am, Captain Vikram Batra led his men to recapture Point 5140 from the Pakistani forces. But, for that, he had to pay the ultimate sacrifice.
