The movie "Jersey" revolves around cricket, but within its core lies a beautiful story of a father and son. It's a tale of second chances, of embracing adversity while preserving one's dreams and making sacrifices to reveal them. In this film, Shahid Kapoor portrays the character of Arjun Talwar, a 36-year-old cricketer who gave up the game to build a life for his wife (Mrunal Thakur) and child (Ranit Kamra). Though he manages to bring a person out of his cricketing self, he cannot detach cricket from within. This also becomes true for Shahid Kapoor himself.

Director Gautam Tinnanuri has seamlessly connected the plot of the film without burdening it with unnecessary complexities, and as the movie progresses, you will understand that all the characters are deeply rooted in North India. Arjun's emotions, his sense of guilt, the failures in his life, and how Shahid Kapoor has embodied Arjun's character are all remarkable. Shahid has magnificently portrayed Arjun's frustration. However, credit also goes to the director for making it happen.

Shahid Kapoor's portrayal of Arjun's struggles and pain in life is simply incomparable. After "Haider" and "Kabir Singh," this film also demands applause for his acting. Mrunal's acting in the role of Arjun's wife, Vidya, is truly beautiful, showing a blend of warmth and coldness in her demeanor as she struggles to maintain a harmonious relationship with her husband, amidst the twists of fate.

The depiction of Vidya and Arjun's love, how it transforms through absence and conflicts, can be witnessed in the movie. Ranit Kamra, as Shahid and Vidya's son, also delivers a wonderful performance. Pankaj Kapur's acting as the coach is equally praiseworthy.

On the other hand, "Jersey" is a very long film, especially the first half is quite lengthy. After getting acquainted with Arjun's character, the curiosity to understand why he is so helpless and distressed will intrigue the audience. However, the climax has been stretched too much, and the film concludes before the audience can fully grasp Arjun's situation. Additionally, the cricket scenes in the second half might not captivate everyone.
