Movie Summarize:

When any movie succeeds commercially, it doesn't necessarily become well-liked by critics. So, when a film from the mainstream becomes commercially successful and also wins over critics, it becomes clear that there is indeed something special about that film. This movie has the potential to resonate with people from all walks of society. Majibur Rahman Sumon's directed 'Hawa' is exactly such a film. The gradual transition within the backdrop of the real and urban environment, where things slowly start to become polluted, is precisely where the narrative of 'Hawa' unfolds. Its narrative or story confronts you with a 'marvelous' reality. Within this setting, there are stories of life as well as poetic imagery of fantasy.

Hawa' is a well-known Bengali film, so there's no need for any new introduction or role for this film. We can directly start discussing the movie itself. The story of this film is not extraordinary! It can be described as a very simple tale of love or revenge. Stories like this might not impress us when heard from someone's lips. Then how did the director manage to keep the audience engaged for almost 2 hours with such a simple story? This is where the director's craftsmanship hides. To say that it's only the director's craftsmanship would be wrong; the hard work and dedication of each member of the film team contribute to achieving the impossible. The film 'Hawa' revolves around three to four themes that are worthy of praise. Let's begin discussing them one by one.

First and foremost, it's essential to talk about the setting or space of this film. Remember, a significant portion of the shooting for 'Hawa' took place in the sea. The director has been shooting the characters of the film month after month in the trailers. In this regard, they have faced various obstacles repeatedly. To be truthful, shooting in the middle of the sea for the trailer is not an easy task! However, the dedication of this team has made them overcome all adversities.

The camera has repeatedly plunged into the deep waters of the sea. It has brought us a touch of real magic. However, that small setting of catching fish over the vast expanse of azure waters in the trailer has never truly reached the audience. Exploring the depths of the sea, various cinematic spaces were not readily available to the director, but the impressive craftsmanship hasn't given the audience a chance to think of it that way. In contemporary Bengali cinema, most of the time, when we are fatigued by the monotony of upscale urban settings and chaotic conversations during high-stakes boardroom meetings, it's precisely during those moments that 'Hawa' offers the joy of savoring a distinct 'cinematic space'.

To create a film, it's crucial for its screen presence to be powerful. It's similar to the foundation of any good movie. Even a simple narrative can be elevated to extraordinary heights solely through the help of cinematic language, and it requires adequate expertise as well. The pre-production and screen presence of the film 'Hawa' can truly be sensed. Creating such a beautiful film without the baggage of overacting is never easy; this fact must be acknowledged!

The third aspect that must not go unmentioned is the music of this film. In the musical direction of Imon Choudhury, even the minor imperfections of 'Hawa' seem to dissipate. The song 'Shada Shada Kala Kala' has become extremely popular. It has reached people from all walks of society. Imon himself revealed this in an interview. However, what's noteworthy here is that despite the use of several non-musical instruments, the track of this song has been created. In the film's scenes, it's evident that the boatmen, with various objects in their hands, are crafting the music. The joyous singing starts from there. The director aimed to encapsulate that essence in the music as well. Thus, the task of creating such a track fell to Imon. He presented the old song in a new light before the audience. The impact it has is so well-established that there's no need to reiterate how profoundly it resonates and leaves an indelible mark.

Right from the beginning of the film, the director takes the audience along with the characters on a boat, out into the middle of the sea. Unknowingly, it feels like we're leaping from reality into a surreal environment. However, this surreal environment is not a representation of an idyllic place; it's a dystopia. The exceptional composition, use of light, and camera work repeatedly showcase a desire to express a meticulous craftsmanship. And it's precisely for this reason that this critically acclaimed and commercially successful Bangladeshi film has carved its niche, even flying on the wings of Oscars' recognition.

Finally, not praising the acting of each character in this film would be remiss. In the role of Chan Majhi, Chanchal Chowdhury truly shines. Immersing himself in the character of 'Chan Majhi,' he has truly established himself. His manner of speech, acting, everything is unparalleled. One is tempted to be captivated by this Chanchal and quietly observe him in awe. The other characters in the film who have acted are also exceptional.

It is solely through the language of cinema that Majibur Rahman Sumon has demonstrated how an ordinary story can be portrayed extraordinarily. In contemporary times, we may not have witnessed such beautifully envisioned films in Bengali. Wakibahal Mahal now raises the question, does 'Hawa' initiate a new trend in 21st-century Bengali cinema? The future will reveal that...
