Movie Summarize:

A few words and a picture review could have been written in simple terms. But that's not happening. Because without the familiar success of location, glamour, or action, and with a calm, unruffled expansiveness in the picture, which, like the tranquil water in a blazing conflagration, moistens the viewer's heart, making it tender like soaked cotton. And as the story progresses, it's as if the final song of the movie immediately plays in the viewer's mind — 'Sitting on the ocean shore, without water, oh chatak, I'm wasted.' Written by Lalon. But still, even in this 2023, how relevant it is! Like our lives. All around so much light, so much brightness, so much joy, yet there's an unfamiliar tear, a pain of not having, a slight subtle agony that resides in those who do not attain mental fulfillment. They seem to never find emotional completeness.

The contentment chants that resound here, the countless people in this city who strive to immerse themselves in that chant's allure daily, can't be put into words. Yet, we can say this much – when social media opens up, we come across posts with messages like 'Oh my, the weekend is coming! A bit of freedom after work. How fun!' This universal escapism, this ever-present mindset, due to the various pressures that bind us from all sides, is why we find ourselves seated by the shore of the reservoir of water, yet unable to quench our thirst, much like the longing of a cuckoo bird.

However, even if the audience doesn't delve deeply into the film, it will still work. For those who only associate cinema with acting, this film holds much more power. You can watch this film just to savor the nuances of acting. And when it comes to acting, the first name to mention is Prosenjit Chatterjee. The character he portrays under the name of Balmiki is exactly the opposite of the real Prosenjit. Still standing tall at sixty, Prosenjit is as youthful as ever. Regular physical workouts, controlled diet, and a balanced lifestyle have kept him feeling less than forty. And then there's the broken physique of Balmiki. He's a wreck. Addicted to cigarettes, deeply drawn to alcohol. An anti-social, unsuccessful, and failed character in life.

However, there resides within him an entirely opposite individual. The way Prosenjit has embodied Balmiki is something that might need to be recognized once again in this year's award ceremonies. For such a character, not just in Bengali cinema, but even in Indian cinema, hasn't been crafted before. There's no precedent. To deeply immerse an actor into a character like this, the amount of mental struggle that had to be waged, the effort needed to make Balmiki believable to the audience accustomed to watching films - all of this can be comprehended by any seasoned viewer. Prosenjit has accomplished this through his own efforts. The unkempt beard, frail body, sunken eyes! And the scene from 'Dhin Tak Dhin Tak'er Bata Tin Tak' – with an obscene word on his lips. It'll stay etched in your memory. In the film, he has a screen time of around 70 minutes. The fact that it's no easy feat to keep an unfamiliar character captivating on screen for so long is evident. From Mofassal's Prosenjit to becoming Shohor's Prosenjit Chatterjee, he has completed a full circle in his journey. That much can be said.

Beside him, Vikram Chatterjee has shone in the character of Shaunak as well. In the role of a recovery agent in 'Shesh Pata', he portrays an unseen Vikram. Prior to this, he hadn't taken on such a character. He hadn't dabbled in such intense acting either. Alongside him, Gargi Roychowdhury has also provided a rare example of restrained acting throughout the film. I've heard the song 'Pirithi Param Nidhi' by Rabithakur from the versatile's repertoire, and he sang it quite well. Here too, his open and melodious voice, coupled with the sound of rain, made the song 'Amar Jwaleni Alo' feel incredibly soothing. The commendation for Raiti's restrained portrayal is also well-deserved.
