The tough boy Vijay Deverakonda has put in the effort to become a beloved MMA Fighter, just like his father, under the influence of his mother, Balamani (Ramya Krishnan). Mother's desire is that her son becomes a popular MMA Fighter just like his father. To fulfill that aspiration, Balamani takes Liger to Mumbai. She attempts to provide training to her son under the guidance of the acclaimed coach Ronit Roy. Balamani hopes that Liger will win the National Championship. However, things take an unexpected turn. Instead of pursuing a career as an MMA Fighter, his priority shifts to romance. Liger becomes infatuated with the social media sensation Tania (Ananya Panday). But Liger's story is not just about the love affair between a poor hero and a wealthy heroine. It's about building the plot around a known premise and infusing this movie with a distinct flavor through relentless efforts. The attempt to cork the old wine bottle with force has proven to be successful in a different way. The entry of Liger's idol, Mike Tyson, into the film surprises the audience.
In the cinema of Puri Jagannadh, there is a light touch of logic. However, no character in the movie 'Liger' is strong. Vijay has tried to win the audience's hearts sometimes through his acting and at other times through his appearance. However, it was not possible for this movie to stand solely on his individual performance. In today's era, the portrayal of the movie should be much smarter. But, the script of the movie 'Liger' is quite foolish.
In a certain phase of the movie, women have been portrayed as somewhat insignificant. Balamani advises her son to stay away from creatures like Deyyalu (Demons) similar to Tania, and this scene compels many to react. Ramya's character claims women divert men's attention. In the present era, such dialogues appear quite manipulative. Even Ananya Panday's character lacks depth in the movie. Her acting is not very impressive either.
